There are many marathons and races in the Pocono Mountains, so I thought we’d take a look at a not so conventional Marathon type event that is held in the Pocono Mountains – The Pennsylvania Tough Mudder. I have never been one that has enjoyed running or any type of lengthy activity, so I give kudos to those that are able to compete in any type of strenuous event. I ran track one year in grade school and that was enough to turn me off to any type of running, but then again running in circles around a track(or better yet sprinting) is a lot different then running an outdoor course through the Poconos.
This past weekend was the Pennsylvania Tough Mudder was held at Pocono Manor. For those not familiar with it, it’s a grueling 10-12 mile course designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Unlike typical marathon type events, they offer tattoos, beer and other ‘tough’ rewards once you’ve finished.
If you missed it last weekend, and told your friends “yeah I’d do that, I’ll just wait until next time” and are hoping that a year away…you’re out of luck. The next Pennsylvania Tough Mudder is this upcoming Mother’s Day weekend, May 12th and 13th, so hopefully you didn’t put your foot in your mouth on that one, or you need to start that endurance training asap! Today is the last day for registration though, so maybe you can dodge a bullet if you can hold them off from knowing you can enter for just one more day…
If you participated or will be participating in either Tough Mudder Run we’d love to see photos and hear stories, simply send us an email to media@poconotalk.com
Good luck to everyone that is participating!
