For six Saturdays in July and August, local music instructors Jason Merrill and Benya Barshai will be leading a workshop in the Boiler Room (where Harmony Presents has their performances) in the Silk Mill.
“I find that, although they do a great job with the funding they have, our local public schools don’t delve much into improvisation and composition, as these are skills typically not needed in their current programs. It is my belief that being able to access these skills are essential for understanding the language of Music,” says Jason Merrill (www.jasonbrianmerrill.com), graduate of East Stroudsburg University (Secondary Education) who is faculty at the Black Bear Conservatory of Music and a local performer in various different acts.
“I’m looking forward to sharing the best aspects of music and playing with other musicians alongside Jason,” says Benya Barshai (www.barshaimusic.com), a local composer and graduate of Kutztown University (Jazz Guitar Performance).
Jason and Benya are experienced teachers and will be bringing their contrasting yet complimentary skillsets to guide participants through a collaborative workshop which will culminate in at least one of these possible projects: a recording, a performance, or a written composition.
Workshop times and age range may vary depending on participation. We are open to all levels and all ages and will set up workshop times and configurations accordingly.
