Project Team From AcceleratePA Announces Great Participation and Support
(East Stroudsburg, PA) – January 13, 2017 – Community and business leaders launched the Monroe $1000 Gigabit Project with almost 100 guests.
Project updates were provided by Kelly Lewis, President, Lewis Strategic, and Bob Hagarman, Director of Business Development for BIG Wireless.
5 broadband providers also attended, asking project and timeline questions about the planned February RFP.
Against the original goal of 23, to date, 37 organizations have submitted the broadband survey.
The Monroe $1000 Gigabit Project is hosted by the Monroe 2030 Action Team, Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation, and East Stroudsburg University.
A state-of-the-art incubator and company-accelerator located off Interstate 80, the East Stroudsburg University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center is located 500 yards from Interstate-80.
At the January 13th meeting, Marcia G. Welsh, Ph. D., President of East Stroudsburg University welcomed guests to the Monroe $1000 Gigabit meeting and encouraged guests to continue the important conversations to drive Monroe County forward. “We need to understand both our opportunities and our hurdles,” stated Dr. Welsh.
Kelly Lewis challenged the group to change the original goal of 23 interested organizations to complete the Broadband Survey to 42. Lewis said February’s objective is to get 16 organizations to participate in the broadband RFP.
Lewis provided detailed descriptions of objectives for meetings in February, March, April and the last meeting on May 12, 2017.
Monroe County is strategically located at the intersections of Interstate 80, Routes 33, 611, 209 and the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike connecting Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Lehigh Valley, central PA and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Organizations interested in $1000 Gigabit are being asked to complete a brief survey by visiting https://goo.gl/forms/4LQakQXtOnvrU2yz1 in order to become a participant. Future Monroe County $1000 Gigabit meetings are scheduled for 2017: February 13, March 13, April 13, and May 12, 2017.
