Non-Profit Group formed for fundraising, operating and maintaining the Terra Greens Golf Course
(East Stroudsburg, PA) – A growing group of golfers, community members, stakeholders, and interested partners have organized a group to protect, preserve, operate and maintain the Terra Greens Golf Course. The Golf Course is owned by the Borough of East Stroudsburg, who decided to not budget the Golf Course in 2023, thereby effectively closing the course. In March, social media posts confirmed the golf course closing, and this group formed and started having meetings, conference calls, and attending Borough Council meetings.
The Group already has a strong, experienced team in place to reopen the golf course, if/when the Group can secure a lease agreement and/or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to operate, maintain, and make capital improvements at the Terra Greens Golf Course.
“We want to thank everyone for the strong outpouring of community support to save the Terra Greens Golf Course,” stated Kelly Lewis, Esquire, a leader in the Friends of Terra Greens Golf Course. “We are confident we can raise the needed funds from our supporters, and return Terra Greens to an excellent 9-hole community golf course. We want to make sure a quality, affordable golf course is readily available to residents, most especially for school children and college students, our next generation of Pocono golfers. Whether we work together with the Borough, Stroud Regional Open Space Commission or both, our goal is to get onto the Terra Greens Golf Course as soon as possible for green and fairway repairs and maintenance. Time is of the essence!”
The group is very interested in starting a 6th or 7th grade program for students to learn golf, much like the area schools do for skiing, and the Pennsylvania ski industry does for 4th graders. The ski and golf industries are major components of the Pocono resort and recreation industry, the largest employer in Monroe County.
The Terra Greens Group is also very interested in hosting men’s, women’s and mixed golf leagues, as well as community charity events.
A frisbee golf course will be considered with the capital budget fundraising the Group pursues.
