Although the official start of fall isn’t until September 22nd, the temperature changes over the past few weeks have definitely made it feel like fall is already here. For the past 2-3 weeks there has been a battle between summer temperatures (96 last Thursday) and Fall temperatures (74 on Sunday), for the most part though it looks like we’ll be staying in the 70-80s from here out.
If you’re traveling to the Poconos for a trip soon keep in mind that it’s anywhere from the low 50s at night to the low 40s in the next few weeks so be sure to pack some warmer clothes as well.
This summer was unseasonably hot and dry so I’m not sure how ‘bright’ of a fall we’re going to have this year. Some trees already have lost their leaves/changed due to the dry weather, there’s still plenty of leaves to be changed and I hope that we can enjoy the beautiful fall change at it’s best.
In the Poconos we get the true 4 seasons – hot summers, cool falls with beautiful foliage change, plenty of snow in the winter and warm lush spring weather.
The weather can and does greatly vary throughout the Poconos due to elevation, you might see 1 inch of snow at one location and travel 15 minutes and see 6 inches. We also get a lot of “back and forth”, spring will arrive and then we’ll be hit with a random snow storm or we’ll get a summer temperature day in the middle of fall.
When will snow arrive in the Poconos? Well, over the years I’ve seen it as early as October (a dusting to an inch), it doesn’t always mean that winter is here or will stay here, but it’s enough to make you take your pumpkins in and start preparing for snow.
So plan to enjoy fall before it’s gone! I’ll be posting some fall things to do in the Poconos soon to give you some ideas, there’s so many great places to go and things to do to make lasting memories for you, your friends and family for years to come.
