“I’m BORED. There’s nothing to do.”
If you don’t have anything planned for your kids this summer, get used to those words. But what if you could find a way to get them active, build their confidence and have a blast all at the same time?
Fortunately, there are a lot of outdoor activities that do just that. Challenging activities like rock climbing, kayaking and hiking help build new skills and develop character. They also encourage kids to try different things and give them a taste of personal success – all while having fun and making new friends. Best of all, these outdoor endeavors are great for healthy bodies and minds.
Many places in your own back yard have exactly these types of outdoor activities, like Blue Mountain Adventure Camp. There, kids traverse rope courses, fly down zip lines and conquer whitewater. They learn survival skills, archery and how to make things with their own two hands. They also get to feel what it’s like to be a leader, experience true camaraderie and acquire a greater sense of independence and improved self-esteem. Blue Mountain also hosts birthday parties with the same goals of confidence building and good times.
This summer, look for an alternative to sitting around staring at a screen and give your kids the gift of finding themselves. You’ll hear a lot less “there’s nothing to do” and a lot more “guess what I did.”
