Day 14: Time
Saying that the events that unfolded today in Newtown, CT were heartbreaking would be an understatement. It makes us question a lot of things, and has become one of those “grounding” moments that changes the way you view life.
In light of today, our Day 14 “gift” it’s not something that you can buy, which is Time. We have busy lives and busy days filled with work, family and obligations. Our holiday season is stuffed with planning, purchasing and running around. We are overworked, stressed and are trying to be everything to everyone all at the same time.
When it comes down to it, those that truly love you, all they really want is your time. Your parents just want a few moments to spend with their pride and joy that they brought into this world and have watched grow up. Your kids want your attention – to sit and play, to talk and to cuddle with. Your friends want someone to laugh with, to vent their problems to and not be judged. Your spouse wants those few moments to know that they’re appreciated and loved even if you’ve been together 50 years. Distant relatives want to know you care enough to see them and spend time with them, even if it requires a 4 hour drive.
This Christmas still get those special gifts for your kids, your family and your friends. But remember that all anyone really wants is you and your presence. That is what the holiday season is all about – spending time with your loved ones.
If you’re like me and believe that Christ was born and died so that we could live – then live a life that would make him proud and spread his love this holiday season.
Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone effected by today’s events.
