On Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 8 PM, The Downtown Hawley Partnership in partnership with Harmony Presents will showcase the 3rd Hawley Harvest Hoedown Bluegrass & Folk Concert at the Ritz Company Playhouse in Hawley, PA. This concert serves as the culminating event after the day’s Hawley Harvest Hoedown fall festivities.
In 2014 and 2015, the concert was comprised of three high-power bluegrass and folk bands from around the country, and this year is no different. “Our mix of performers this year will enchant and thrill. Sometimes bands appear out of nowhere and make a sound so enticing and exciting, it’s like they’re the product of something divine, delivering new life into an audience through song. Our headliners, Driftwood are an example of that. With compelling musicianship on bluegrass instruments, Driftwood blends old-time, country, rock and folk with a heart free of inhibition,” says Jill Carletti, Managing Director of Harmony Presents.
In both 2014 and 2015, popular north-east bluegrass band, The Coal Town Rounders headlined the Hawley Harvest Hoedown Bluegrass & Folk Concert. The band has since stopped playing together, but Chris Kearney, the lead singer and guitarist for the band will emcee for 2017 as he had in years past. Carletti adds, “We may even get lucky and get to hear Chris play a song or two.”
She continues, “We’re also so excited about our opening bands, Colebrook Road and Mountain Ride, who can easily stand strong on their own. For traditional bluegrass lovers, you’ll find everything you love and more in Colebrook Road. A standout string band, Colebrook Road has won award after award for their exuberantly creative songwriting, material and instrumentation. Bluegrass-jam band appreciators will be thrilled by Mountain Ride, whose old-time picking is tastefully colored with stylish, progressive, new grass hands. This band poignantly delivers genuine sound with a message of integrity. It’s not trying to emulate anything. It’s honest to the core and the expression is authentic. Mountain Ride expertly pushes familiar bluegrass into new, uncharted regions, for a truly glorious mountain ride.”
