I came across this article the other day about Penn Hills, a local resort that’s has been closed since 2009, and had seen its best days a long long time ago. When Penn Hills was still open I’d pass by it frequently and I constantly wondered to myself how they were still in business, from all outward appearances it looked extremely run down, and that was putting it nicely. From the outside it looked dirty, unkept and looked like it hadn’t been maintained in years, and looking up online reviews my skepticism was confirmed by people stating that they had stayed there after seeing photos or a brochure(which were from years back), and that upon their arrival it was nothing like what they imagined and quite the shock(in a bad way) of their life. The photos in the article that came out this month tell the visual story of exactly how run down it has become, and if you can see through the graffiti and stuff strewn about in photos that “worn down” look was how it looked even while it was still operational. Keep in mind it’s only been 4 years since Penn Hills closed, so much of what you see is sadly how the place looked just a few years ago. Or if you want to read more about other area resorts that fell to disarray Mount Airy / Stricklands is an interesting story, one that ultimately has a positive ending with the resort being leveled and the new Mount Airy Casino Resort was built in it’s place:http://www.weirdus.com/states/pennsylvania/abandoned/mount_airy_lodge/
